The New Look & Stuff

So, I changed the look a little bit. Does anyone notice?

I have heard some comments that I do not blog or post much; That I have not updated the page in a long time. How's this? Better? ;-)~

Oddly, I get many hits to the page but little comments...mmmm.

Oh well, off to take my afternoon pain meds...oh I forgot, I hurt my back, yet again.

I did not think it was as bad as the last time I hurt it. I was right. This is worse. I have not been able to move much at all. And because of this crappy back pain I missed out on a trip to Burke Williams with 2 of the ladies from work. It was going to be ladies Thursday. Boo on me! Sorry girls and we will plan another one soon!

I am going back to the doctors this evening & hope there is something more they will recommend than just meds & rest because I am SICK of being in bed!

Hope you are all having a great Friday!

What is Going On?

Ok Ok so a weather woman I am NOT!

How did this morning:

Turn into this afternoon:
And it happened so fast! I guess we are on storm watch! I thought this was sunny CA?!?!!?

And this place I am working at, sheesh, the lights keeps dimming as if the power will go off at any minute. Sure glad I have everything saved & backed up "just-in-case".

I guess tonight is a good night for a good movie or book (or crocheting for me & the Wrider) with the fireplace going or with a snuggly blanket.

Wish I was at home. It would be great to get back into my bed on an afternoon like this one.

EEEE Mail . . .

Got one of those forwards again - I liked this one & thought we could all use a reminder of one thing or another on the list:

ONE
. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

TWO. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

THREE. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

FOUR. When you say, "I love you," mean it.

FIVE. When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.

SIX. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

SEVEN. Believe in love at first sight.

EIGHT. Never laugh at anyone's dream. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

NINE. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

TEN. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

ELEVEN. Don't judge people by their relatives.

TWELVE. Talk slowly but think quickly.

THIRTEEN. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"

FOURTEEN. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

FIFTEEN. Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.

SIXTEEN. When you lose, don't lose the lesson

SEVENTEEN. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.

EIGHTEEN. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

NINETEEN. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

TWENTY. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

TWENTY-ONE. Spend some time alone.

Thought that I might try something new:

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
The statistics on sanity are that 1 out of every 4 Americans is suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your 3 (best) friends (or people). IF they’re ok, then it’s you.

How about here???

Anyone interested in a nice retreat?

A place without work to bother you.

A place without kids to worry about.

A place without pets to take care of.

A place without worries.

A place were your problems cannot follow you.

I am down for that!

I could go here:

OR
even here:

This next one is just a pretty paradise I came across. I thought that we ALL could use a rainbow to brighten our week.

Happy Friday to ALL & Hope the weekend treats you well!

Wednesday, Long Wednesday . . . .

Ok - this IS the longest week ever...well ok, it FEELS like the longest week ever. The weather is crazy & making me not feel well. Will it continue to rain or not? I just looked outside & it is all sunny. What is the deal?

I don't know about you, but the time change is still kicking my butt!

Work has been getting a little crazy and I find myself thinking about it ALL the time. On the drive home from work. Then it pops back into my mind as I get ready for bed. I think of it again in the middle of the night. Then I wake up in the morning & work pops back into my thoughts again. How did I get rid of this cycle?

I am with you & that *drink* Wrider!

May be a little hoops & yoyo to lighten the day:
It's Wednesday, see what Hoop's & Yoyo's have to say now

Here's to a better end of the week for all of us!!

About "Mondays"

I almost forgot another favorite of mine- "hoops & yoyo". I have to thank my mom for this. She 'found' these gems online and sends me a new hoops & yoyo card at least once a week.

In case you are not familiar, these guys are from hallmark e-cards. The cards crack me up too. Some of the cards are funnier than others. There are a few cards that just explain what you may be feeling on a certain day of the week while in the office...

Here is a link to their Monday card. I think that I have had a few Mondays like this in my past. Oh yeah, Make sure you have your headphones on when you start the card (the card make noise & you will need to hear it while you watch the card playing). I hope the link works! Hoops & Yoyo for Monday

The smarty people at Hallmark also have these little guys in a few other languages for those with friends abroad or if you just want to check out another language :o)

Hope you like the funny.

For those of you that are at work today, looks like lunch is over. It's time to get back to it :o(

Awe, That is Sweet. . .

Have I mentioned that I really like the Happy Bunny?!?!?!

I know they are probably meant for the younger teens, BUT I find some of them quite funny.

I was able to locate a few jpegs & gifs over the weekend. I wanted to share:

I really enjoy the sarcastic little comments the bunny has. The creator did a great job with matching the bunny's poses with the comments. After a bad day at work (And sometimes during a bad day at work), they always seem to make me laugh a little.

"You Suck & That's Sad" is a favorite along with "Make the Stupid People Shut Up" and "Its Cute How Stupid You Are". (Those last 2 were thought many, many times last week at work!)

There are many others that I like, but I will have to continue my Internet hunt another time...

Happy Monday to All...if that is possible.

THIS SAYS IT ALL...

Got this email this morning. Thought it was a bit therapeutic to think about:

Time passes.

Life happens.

Distance separates.

Children grow up.

Jobs come and go.

Love waxes and wanes.

Men don't do what they're supposed to do.

Hearts break.

Parents die.

Colleagues forget favors.

Careers end.

BUT -
Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you.

A girlfriend is never farther away than needing her.

When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.

Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you, or come in and carry you out.

Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, mothers, grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins and extended family all bless our life.

When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead, nor did we know how much we would need each other.

Every day, we need each other still.

The Air is Clean!

Carbon Fiber Free For Over One Year...I can breathe easy now!

No more money wasted on engine swaps, no more ridiculously priced rims, no more special racing seats, no more intakes or fancy, noise making exhausts! No more stupid car parts cluttering my garage (thanks to a few friends for helping me take care of that) and NO MORE CARBON FIBER!!!!!!!

The drain on my emotions & pocket book did not seem as severe as it really was back in the moment of living it. Looking back, I was a fool for sure! Why the heck did I support a looser for so long? (He was not even that nice of a guy either.) Why did I waste my time, effort & love for someone that was no good for me even though I was aware he was not good for me? Apparently, I like to learn things the hard way. It is much easier to not to love or (have to) support CF anymore!

I survived and now I know what I DO NOT want in my life. Lesson learned

CrAzY eNgliSh ....

I got this email a few wks ago & it was right up my "Back to the Original" alley!!!

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. We take English for granted.

There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple.

English muffins weren't invented in England nor were French fries in France.

A guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig

If we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square.

Why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indi ces?

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend?

If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Where else can you ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

Back to the Original . . .

Do You Think English is Easy? Imagine if you had just recently learned this language. These 20 sentences would drive you nuts!

Check this out:

1) The bandage was wound around the wound.
2) The farm was used to produce produce.
3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
4) We must polish the Polish furniture.
5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.
6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present
8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum
9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
10) I did not object to the object.
11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row
13) They were too close to the door to close it.
14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.
15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail
18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Not so much! I feel bad for people trying to learn English as a second language! YIKES!

An Amazing Family!

Ok - I learned about this family, THE MURPHY's, while watching TLC (or was is Discovery Health Channel?) the other night. The TV special airs on both TLC & Discovery Health - "Our 27 Kids" is the title. I can not give justice to the work these people have done. I say, "Watch the Show".

The Family:

27 Children Total.

4 biological kids, all average.

23 adopted kids. ALL adoptees have Special Needs (they are mentally &/or medically challenged or in one way or another).

The majority of the adopted children have Down Syndrome, http://www.ndss.org/ . Most these kids have severe medical (heart) conditions attached to them while some of the other children are products of mothers addicted to drugs and others have severe brain damage (one of which was a result of being shaken after birth). The show commented that this family takes in those children that are normally not 'wanted' in the adoptions that take place in the Untied States. (sad, huh?)

The couple that is raising these kids/people is amazing in their own right! This family has more love than any on if can imagine. The children (and some are now adults) in their care have all turned out better than anyone could have hoped for. These people have really allowed them to thrive! They have nursed some very sick kids back to health. The kids are all home schooled. These kids seem to have learned more in this environment than they may have in the school(s) in their area.

Their mother finds tasks for everyone to get involved in, no matter what their ability level is. Everyone participates in activities of daily living at the very least. Some of the higher functioning, older children are mentoring the younger ones with vocabulary, assistance with eating and other tasks.

The family also takes a yearly vacation to the beach - that is a lot of planning & organization with such a large group! And the behavior of all of these guys/gals out as a large group is AWESOME!
(I hope, if I ever have children, that I am able to teach children as well as this family has taught theirs!)

This is a link to allow you to see a bit more about them:
http://www.murphyhouseproject.com/
(This link is a donation site that was started to get these guys into a bigger, newer home AND to provide other items to them. The back story/ information is there too)

The Social Worker in me would love to follow their lead.

Big V to the Rescue . . .

So, my trip the Doctor was not as bad as I thought it might be. That DOES NOT mean it was as good as I thought it could be either.

I actually got in rather quickly to see the Doc. I explained to him what was going and gave him some back story (See that? ha ha). I told him what I had tried to do on my own and he then proceeded to poke & prod me.

In the end, he was not able to do much but gove me a script for pain meds. He informed me that the muscle tissue was too inflamed for an x-ray or MRI at that point. I was instructed to take my medicine like a good little girl and call back if the pain did not resolve in 5 to 7 days. He scribbled down the medication & dosage, gave it to me & on the way out advised me that I should not return to work for a few days. (Awesome, an extra day off to rest...which was great since I had not had much of that in the past 4 days!)

To my surprise, he had given me Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen (The Big V). I usually am given crap that does not work - Soma, Flexeril or Robaxin. This Doc meant business. I was pretty much out for the next day and a half. That was some NICE rest. There was pain relief for sure!

And I am sure glad that there is a long weekend ahead of me! I am exhausted from the medication (duh) and having to think before I make any movement so I do not cause any more pain. So, this weekend will consist of some house cleaning & lots of sleeping (what a party animal, huh?)!!

SPECIAL NOTE: The Duke's last Day Happy Hour - A small gathering AND good times. It was nice to see some fellow bloggers *Your Mom*, Birdman & Avman along with some other co-workers & Mrs.Duke. The best appearance was by far the D'nasty! The Duke must be super cool to have gotten her to make an appearance! I guess that work husband/wife duo is meant to be!

LESSON OF THE DAY: Do not take strong pain medication, eat lunch & then ride back to work as a back seat passenger! Unless you are into the binge-purge thing...Yuck, I know!

Tuesday, February 13, 2007

OUCH!!!!

So, I have not been @ work for a few days...anyone wondering about me there? Well, even if no one there is wondering, I'm tellin'!

Have you ever thought about the effort involved in picking up a simple object off of the ground? For most of us, pretty easy! Have you thought about the effort involved in the process of getting dressed? For that same most, no problem! Right?

I have been in the "most of us" category for the majority of my lifetime as well...Until Saturday at about 4am, I (again) have been taken out of the “most of us” group. I was up and decided to get something picked up off of the floor on my way to the restroom. That seemed easy enough. Um, yeah, right - WRONG. I have done some serious damage to my back (which if you do not know was ruined back in my Disney working days).

I am sure it is a combination of lifting things improperly as well as things that are a bit too heavy over the last year. It could not just be the result of the tiny, feather weighted article of clothing I innocently scooped up off of the ground (I hope it couldn't be). But whatever the case - YIKES! I have not been able to sleep much. Any movement up, down, forward or back is painful beyond words! Just getting into & out of bed is an issue. I am headed to the doctor today. Why the 3 day delay (?), you might ask. I had figured (with the history of back injuries) that this 'issue' would be resolved on its own.

I think I have a serious issue when 6 Advil do NOTHING. And let me say that I am no whimp when it comes to back pain (other things, yeah I can be. Back pain = no way!). I have lived day in & day out with pain in my lower back that has been there since I was about 20 yrs old. It is not fun but I deal. I have a few tricks that normally would make it better. I have tried all of my old tricks - stretching, over the counter meds, hot pads, cold packs, ICYHOT self stick patches, alternating sitting & standing, walking, light sports message. Nothing has brought an ounce of relief.

So, I must fold and head into the Doctor.

MEH! Not the doctor! (hey, did u see that? Huh? huh? Did ya??) I hate having to go there. I better get some sort of help from them!

LESSON OF THE DAY - Bend from the knees to pick up ANYTHING at all!! Take care of you so no one else has to.

Got this poem in my inbox the other day. Thought I would share. Sometimes we all forget . . .

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....Enough money within her control to move out And rent a place of her own even if she never wants to or needs to...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....Something perfect to wear if the employer or date of her dreams wants to See Her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...A youth she's content to leave behind....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....A past juicy enough that she's looking forward to retelling it in her Old Age....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE...A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE....One friend who always makes her laugh...And one who lets her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....A good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her Family...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....Eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, And a recipe for a meal that will make her guests feel Honored...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....A feeling of control over her destiny...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...How to fall in love without losing herself...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...HOW TO QUIT A JOB, BREAK UP WITH A LOVER, AND CONFRONT A FRIEND WITHOUT RUINING THE FRIENDSHIP...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...When to try harder...And WHEN TO WALK AWAY...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... That she can't change the length of her calves, The width of her hips, or the nature of her parents...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...That her childhood may not have been perfect...But it's over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...What she would and wouldn't do for love or more...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...How to live alone...Even if she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...Whom she can trust, Whom she can't, And why she shouldn't take it personally...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...Where to go...Be it to her best friend's kitchen table...Or a charming inn in the woods...When her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...What she can and can't accomplish in a day...A month...And a year...

Correct the Sentence . . .

So, yes - I am in NEED of a new post! I know!

I had a few minutes this morning & came across one of those lame forwards that always ends up in my in box. (Apparently, my stay-at-home mom friends think that can send anything AND everything to my work email instead of my personal one) However, this one had something that caught my eye - Punctuation and how to use is correctly.

Men & Women were given the follwoing sentence and told to correct the sentence by adding the correct punctuation: 'woman without her man is nothing'.

Men's Answer -"Woman, without her man, is nothing."

Women's Answer - "Woman! Without her, man is nothing!"

I am sure that many of you have seen this email before but I thought that the Women's answer would remind a few ladies out there that they DO NOT need to depend on a man. Women are capable of taking care of business just as well as any man. This is not meant as a man hating/ man dis-like rant by any means!!!! There are just a few gals out there (you know who you are) that forget they can do it on their own.

Oops , never did tell any of ya about New York did I ?!?

The Difference with Capitolization is...

OK- I have been told that a new blog is NEEDED. The pressure is a lot for me ...I am not sure I can take it!

I really don't have much for you all this week. I am sorry to disappoint!

So, I will default to an office cube conversation. ..

A fellow co-worker of mine and I were discussing how a simple capitalization of a single letter can make a difference, a night & day difference, in a written phrase! The meaning of an entire sentence can be changed by one measly letter – the dependence on capitalization to meaning…crazy!

Just to show you all what I mean, take a look at these two sentences:

(1) “I helped my uncle jack off a horse”

The difference with the Capitalization is:

(2) “I helped my uncle Jack off a horse”.

SEE?!?!!? Very important to have grammar correct in certain situations!

Awe, the wonder of the English language!

Go ahead...Discuss.

Who Says Life Is Fair?!?

Who was it that said "Life is not fair" ? I am not a fan of that guy for sure! That saying is so not the answer I want to hear to my complaining - not ever.

So, who is it that says life IS fair?!?! The answer to that question is: NO ONE!

Why hasn't someone repeated "Life IS fair" enough times for it to be the saying that sticks? That seems like a better statement to me! I figure if it is said enough times that it eventually will stick & be true -may be only at one time in your life, but at least you could say that life, finally, IS fair. (You could be one of the LUCKY ones and have it happen more than once).

I need (ok, more like I WANT) life to be fair. I want this not only for myself but for everyone else too. (SEE I am not as selfish as you all thought!!)

Wouldn't you be a happier you if life was fair? (I know that I WOULD!)
